Dental Anxiety Relief in Cold Spring
Many patients have anxiety or fear when it comes to visiting the dentist. At Wright Dental Center, we don’t take it personally!
In fact, dental fear is more common than you might think. Some patients who come to us express concerns about anxiety, pain, and their time in the treatment chair. That is why Dr. Bo Wright decided to provide our patients with a solution to ensure comfortable, pain-free dentistry at every appointment.
If you need assistance with relaxing during your dental appointment, we offer our patients nitrous oxide. Also known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is a mild sedative medication that helps relieve anxiety and may even produce feelings of elation or euphoria.
We administer nitrous oxide through a mask placed over your nose. We control the level of sedation and can adjust it throughout your appointment to ensure the proper dosage. We mix it with oxygen and it enters and leaves your system quickly, so driving home from your appointment will not be a problem. Nitrous oxide is so mild and safe that we can even use it to help children feel relaxed and calm during their treatment.
Oral Sedation Dentistry
For some patients with high anxiety, a stronger form of sedation might be necessary. Oral sedation utilizes medication in pill form that you will take prior to your dental treatment in our office. Oral sedation is effective in helping patients relax or manage a gag reflex and even assists with patients who have difficulty getting numb.
You will remain conscious during your treatment, but you will be completely relaxed and will lose your sense of time. This is useful for patients who need more extensive treatment because your time in the chair will fly by.
For patients who have difficulty getting numb, you can rest assured that your treatment will be pain free.
Due to the nature of the sedation medication, you will need someone to drive you home from your appointment because the effects of sedation dentistry will wear off throughout the day and you may feel groggy immediately after treatment.
IV Sedation Dentistry
For certain procedures, such as surgeries for implant placement, extractions, or other extensive treatment plans, you may wish to have IV sedation so that you can completely relax during treatment and enjoy a pain- and anxiety-free experience. With IV sedation dentistry, you can enjoy the full effects of sedation during your treatment. Our nurse anesthetist can control your sedation levels throughout your appointment so you feel no stress, anxiety, or fear when you have your necessary dental treatment.
